Ghostface Killah - Set the Tone: REVIEW

What the heck's up y'all?! It's ya boy Denzel back up in the mix, comin' straight outta the Southwestern Deserts of America, where brothas be eatin' coyotes n' slappin' each otha wit' rattlesnakes for fun. Today we got a tape out from P-Tone hisself, AKA Ghostface Killah from Wu Tang Clan. Ghost always been dope, one of the top MC's to me. So let's jump in an' see if the OG still got it!

6 Minutes ft. Harl3y, Jim Jones, Sleek Louch -
Aight, we startin' out wit' summa that nice piano. Ghost's got the first verse n' hook an' they both goin' mad hard. Jim Jones got an' aight verse, but Sheek Louch's verse hits hard. This a dope intro, beat's goin' off as well. Damn good track.

Pair of Hammers ft. Method Man - This whole thing dope. Meth n' Ghost are tradin' bars like heck. Ghost's jus' out here spittin' solid lyrics, an' Meth's keepin' the flow goin'. I mean, check out summa this y'all:

"Wu-Tang is for the children, Thanksgiving is for the pilgrims

My thumb's for countin' ones, but this middle is for your feelings

What the Blood Clot? I'm illin', pop stars not civilians

Sick of y'all, not to mention it's shots, amoxicillin

Me and Ghostface Killah, Mol-ova face, it's written

Tell a bo-faced liar about face, and drill 'em, like

They Dean Cane, get 'em, I hit 'em with gutter flows

Then keep 'em on they toes just for kicks, like "What are those?"

This whole thing mad dope. That sax on the beat samplin' jus' the cherry on top. Love the shoutouts to Slick Rick an' Biggie too by the way.

Skate Odyssey ft. October London, Raekwon - That first verse is straight up fire. Son's jus' goin' off rhymin' an' spittin' bars, an' everything. Second verse dope too. This hook kinda aight too, it ain't interferin' too much wit' the rappin', an' that's what counts. Raekwon goin' CRAAAZZYYY tho'! Word is bond, son comin' out wit summa that old fire! Son's whole verse was dope as hell, he owned the song, WORD!

Scar Tissue ft. Nas - This one startin' out wit' sum rounds of applause. Ghostdini's kickin' bars like "An ill murder game is what they told me, Keep reaching when it's not on mе, we ain't homies, We ain't partnеrs, nigga, and you's a target! So much gun clicking, they kicked us out of apartments!" Dang this HARD y'all!! Second verse gotta be summa the hardest shit ANYBODY done cooked up this year! Now Nas is gettin' in. Son kicked a dope verse, but it kinda looked pathetic next to alla the lyrical gymnastics n' lava hot bars Ghost was kickin'. Nas cooked, Ghost jus' blew everythin' up tho'! Dope!!

Kilo in the Safe ft. Iceman - I like how this startin' out. The beat here coulda used some extra kicks or sumthin' but it's aight. Iceman rappin' now, kinda soundin' like a younga Ghost when he first started wit' the Wu. Son got dope rhymes too like:

"Used to smoke dust in a block with two biscuits

Now my main goal touchin' a billi' and bank roll

Change clothes, hoеs get silly in a range rove

My nеck froze, years been chilly, I been cold"

Ghost comes spittin' bars that makin' me twist up my face like "Them niggas got caught, you got caught up in your feelings". This track summa that straight fire!!

Skit 1 - This skit's dope, P-Tone's always had dope skits, this one's makin' fun of all the Top Five Rappers posts.

No Face ft. Kanye West - The beat here's dope, kinda reminds me of sumthin' Madlib woulda made. Ghost's rappin' 'bout alla the stuff he seen in the city, an' all of this crazy stuff y'all. He spittin' lines like:

"I seen niggas get murked by the heels of stilettos

I blam one nigga and watch the other die by the echo"

I gotta know what the story behind the stiletto line is y'all. That's gotta be sumthin' mad interestin'.

Ye's verse hear soundin' phoned in or sumthin'. First, it off-topic. Then son's rappin' mess like "Welfare, got all the bread, I'm sad, I need some head". That whole yay-yay-yay rhymin' scheme at the end ain't anythin' I'm feelin' either. This thing soundin' shovelled in. Ghost's hook comes in an' jus' leaves Ye's verse lookin' like complete amateur hour yo.

Ghost's third verse on-topic an' makes Ye sound like sumbody's friend who absolutely HADTA BE ON THE TRACK YO!!, cause son's famous an' all that. Ghost's verses mad dope, I'm vibin' heavy wit' this.

Champion Sound ft. DJ Beniton - I love this Jamaican vibe they got on here! This been gone from rap TOO LONG, word! This track mad dope, b. Ayo, son shoulda gotten KRS One on this, that woulda gone HARD, especially wit' all them references to him here. DANG, this dope!

Beats - 8/10

16/20

Cape Fear ft. Fat Joe, Harl3y - This startin' out interestin'. Got a lil' skit at the start. Soundin' like Tone's chasin' sum sucka off his premises. Harl3y's intro dope. Ghost got a fine verse wit' sum jokes here n' there. Joe tho' kinda soundin' a lil' deflated, like he jus' kinda readin' his lines off paper or sumthin'. I miss when he used to jus' go off like an animal on tracks. Ghost doin' all that here. Still a mad fire track tho'.

Beats - 8/10
Lyrics - 7/10
15/20

Skit 2 - This a skit of a phone call between Ghost n' sum chick. It's aight, nice transition.

Plan B ft. Harl3y - Harl3y startin' this wit' sum sangin'. It's aight. Then Ghost jus' explodes, yo. These verses tight, they 'bout cheatin' on his girl wit' sum otha chick, but they well-written. Ain't nuthin' I'mma be comin' back to but it's tight.

Beats - 7/10
Lyrics - 7/10
14/20

Bad Bitch ft. Ja Rule - Now I ain't too pleased to be seein' "ft. Ja Rule" on a tracklist, but we gonna give son a chance n' see what happens. Ghost's first verse dope, we got solid bars like "Yeah, And don't touch my old lady, nigga. 'Cause you'll be learning how to walk like a baby, nigga". The sample on the hook dope, Ja's on now. He kinda sound like he cryin' here, his verse ain't terrible, but it ain't dope either. It's jus' AIGHT. Nuthin' more, nuthin' less. This track's aight, probably gonna be good for meltin' the panties off summa them girls, word. That Ja Rule verse really brung it down tho'.

Beats - 6/10

Locked In ft. AZ, Brittany B - AZ on this. If you ain't checked out son's Doe or Die tape by the way, YA BUGGIN' HOMIE, on me!! That tape's all sortsa dope, check it out!

Aight, movin' back to tha topic, Ghost's spittin' now, we got anotha flawless verse an' this beat goin' crazy. We got bars like:

"Ballplayers got 'em hot in their rocks

It's wall to wall gangsters when we out in the spot

The bartender said "G-ddamn, don't pull out the lot"

But you ain't seen shit, "What time he pulled out the lot?"

Hook's dope too, this Brittany lady's dope.

AZ spittin' now soundin' like he jus' stepped outta a time machine from '94. This whole track mad dope, anotha classic, b!

Beats - 10/10
Lyrics 10/10
20/20

Skit 3 - This a funny skit, it's Ghost an' a friend teasin' each otha 'bout stuff. It's a nice palette cleanser befo' we move on.

Touch You ft. Shaun Wish - This one's aight, it's kinda a bit like an R&B typa jam. It's anotha of them tracks for meltin' the panties off the girls. It's aight, got good lyrics, son's bars is dope here. I vibes wit' it.

Beats - 7/10
Lyrics - 9/10
16/20

Shots ft. Busta Rhymes, Serani, Harl3y - This intro from Serani kinda soundin' like Afrobeats. Oh, this Serani dope, b. Ghost's verse slaps like all get out. Dang this track's tight, that beat's kinda odd, but it somehow fits, nahmean? Busta Rhymes on here witta dope verse soundin' like he straight outta Africa. The whole thing's got that mad fresh international flava y'all.

Beats - 7/10
Lyrics - 9/10
16/20

Trap Phone ft. Chucky Hollywood - This one startin' out a lil' strange. But it's aight. Chucky Hollywood singin' on the intro, he kinda aight. Reminds me a lil' bit of Juice WRLD. He rappin' now an' it's pretty tight but ain't too high on the rhymin'. Son's kinda like Juice WRLD, but like the synthetic version of Juice, an' even Juice was mid, no disrespect to the dead, word. Ghost rappin' now an' it's tight, still not as high on the lyric rankin' tho'. Otherwise, ain't really too much here, nice outro tho'.

Beats - 6/10
Lyrics - 6/10
12/20

Outro Skit - This jus' a skit, thankin' us for givin' this a spin. Good spot to end, but we got one more track.

YUPP! ft. Remy Ma - This track's fire. Ghost's hook game's on point once again, n' we got Remy Ma here too. Ghost killed his verse, the whole thing was jus' lyrical assault n' battery. Remy Ma's verse kinda aight, got a few lines I ain't vibin' wit' too much like

"I'm really that bitch, y'all just little mutts

It's big Remy the big dog, you a little pup

I'm practically a virgin cause I ain't never gave a fuck"

Which all kinda struck me corny. But it's aight, sista got her flow on an' she able to hang wit' Ghost. This a dope outro y'all, maybe shoulda been the intro.

Beats - 7/10
Lyrics - 7/10
14/20

That tape went down aight. Let's add it up:

235/300
78%

The majority of this here tape's mad dope. Here's what I'm thinkin'. Ghost's in his bag like heck, son got bars for days. I jus' kinda wish he woulda tossed out that Trap Phone track, that shit ain't hittin' right for me. Last thing we need is an imitation Juice WRLD on this record, word. Anotha problem I've got is occasionally Ghost let that Harl3y kid go on sangin' for too dang long, like I ain't gonna stop by to hear Harl3y sing, son ain't wack, but that ain't what I'm here for, b. That Kanye verse was jus trash, I'm seein' folk talk 'bout how Kanye's back to his ol' self here - no he ain't, this verse hilariously flat yo! Then, summa the beats here don't got enuff kick to 'em to keep things excitin'. "Touch You" got a kinda skimpy beat that jus' hangs around n' don't go anywhere. I'm talkin' 'bout tracks like that where the lyrics don't match the beat one bit. Aight, onto the good parts.

"Locked In" is all kindsa dope, an' I love what son's doin' blendin' Afrobeats in on tracks like "Shots". We been needin' sum sort of international flava for a long time now! "Kilo in the Safe" an' the collab wit' Raekwon an' Meth all went hard. Those were the standouts for me, especially that Raekwon track. Rae's verse dope as heck. That said, this album dope as heck, it's absolutely worth coppin' this one in a hardcopy. Aight, I'm out, Peace!
